Watching the Sun Rise.

So, it turns out it's not just the baby's that struggle with the changing of the clocks !

I was so tired last night I went to bed at ten sharp, which isn't like me. I slept like a log but woke at 5am. I tried to get back to sleep, but it was no good, so at 5:30am I got out of bed and came down into my workshop.....if I can't sleep I might as well be working !

My plan for today was to frame four pieces of work, so I set to cutting out the backboard for the frames and sealing the first three pieces which were all coloured and ready to go. There was a fourth piece that hadn't been coloured, was just plain black and I had to silver it and seal it before it could be framed.

So, as the darkness was fading to light I found myself putting on coat one, turning black to gun metal. A few hours later once the first coat was dry along I came again with coat two, turning it into a silver piece. The wax has been drying all afternoon and I'm now facing the light turning to dark and so my last job of the day is to add the lacquer that seals and protects the casts. As I will have lost the light by the time the lacquer is dry I think I will have to frame this piece tomorrow, but the frame is all set to go all I have to do is choose which hand I am using in the frame and which I am not. For me that's fairly simple as I have a plan for the shorter hand.

These lovely casts have been ordered by a family to celebrate the arrival of the first Grandchild. It's not just parents who order my work, but Grandparents, Godparents, Brothers and Sisters and even work Colleagues. I think they make wonderful gifts for new parents and I also sell gift vouchers so you can let the parents choose exactly what they want, within the limits of your budget. And don't forget Christmas is only a few weeks away, who wouldn't want one of these for their Baby's First Christmas.

If you would like to discuss having a casting made of your child, family or pet why not give me a call or drop me an email. I'm always happy to have a no obligation chat.
